It’s Monday, the first day back after two weeks of annual leave. Just getting out of bed was a struggle, never mind finding the motivation to wade your way through an inbox full of emails that your colleagues sent solely so they’d look productive during that weird week before everyone went on annual leave for Christmas. The cafetière has been emptied three times already; you’re in need of something else to perk you up. That’s where ‘Egocentric’ by Norway’s Death By Unga Bunga comes in.

Released at the beginning of December, the track is the latest single the garage rockers…

The singer’s ninth studio album was announced via Twitter this afternoon at 13:04 and is a sister record to the American megastar’s surprise lockdown album, folklore, released earlier this year.

Swift has collaborated with Haim, The National, and Bon Iver on the 15-track album, which includes two bonus tracks.

We Can’t Let Covid-19 Erode Feminist Progress

A new report from UN Women shows that COVID-19 has widened the gap between male and female unpaid domestic labour. As positive news about the Pfizer vaccine circulates and the UK looks set to move out of COVID-19’s dark shadow at long last, we cannot let the Coronavirus reduce some of the strides women have made towards equality in the last few decades.

Journalist and author Caitlin Moran talks about ‘The Stair System’ in her latest book, More Than A Woman , perfectly summarising the additional work that many women — mothers in particular — undertake in the home:

The alarm goes off at half-past six in the morning. Bombay Bicycle Club bassist and solo artist Ed Nash gets out of bed. He sees the sun come up, goes on a walk, has a coffee, perhaps some breakfast and then takes himself off to his home studio, where he reads for half an hour. Next, he’ll take care of the boring stuff: death by email is a fate that even famous musicians can’t avoid. Then, at about 10 o’clock, he’ll get started making music and will work until the evening, when his girlfriend gets home from her job as…

Bombay Bicycle Club will release live album, I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose — Live At Brixton on 11th December via Mmm… Records + Caroline International.

The album was recorded on 8th November 2019 at the band’s sold out Brixton Academy show, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their debut album. The band said: “This was a particularly special night for us […] seriously a show that we’ll all remember forever — and especially considering what’s happened since, we’re grateful we have a memory like this to keep us all going until live music can resume.”

The original…

Phoebe Bridgers has just released a music video for ‘Savior Complex’, starring Emmy-nominated Irish actor Paul Mescal.

Bridgers has been effusive in her appreciation of the work of award-winning British actor, writer and producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It turns out the feeling was mutual and, after connecting via email during lockdown, they planned the collaboration on the video.

The track is a fan-favourite from Punisher, the second studio album by the American singer-songwriter, released on June 18, 2020 by Dead Oceans.

The record saw four Grammy nominations for Bridgers in the categories of ‘Best New Artist’, ‘Best Alternative Album’, ‘Best Rock…

I’ve waxed lyrical elsewhere about the brilliance of Taylor Swift’s folklore, so I won’t dedicate too much space to that here.

The indie folk record — released on 24 July 2020, a mere week after Swift told her label the record even existed — became the first million-selling album in the US of 2020 . It has since soundtracked many existential lockdown walks as well as many breakups, marking a distinct change in direction for the American popstar. Swift’s 2019 effort, Lover, was all confetti cannons, pastel pinks and heart emojis, but is far more nuanced. It has more emotional…

Trigger warning: rape, assault

Let’s play a word association game, shall we. If I say ‘model’, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Perhaps you think of a tall, leggy Victoria’s secret model. Maybe you think of transgender model Munroe Bergdorf and her racism row with L’Oreal . Or maybe your mind goes to Canadian fashion model, Winnie Harlow , whose vitiligo gives her a particularly memorable face. In any case, I’m guessing the image that came to mind was of an attractive woman.

And you could hardly be blamed for having such a response; the modelling industry…

How Coronavirus Stitched Up the Fashion Industry

Fashion trends are known to come and go, generally operating on a 15-year cycle. Ever since women were allowed to have jobs we’ve had workwear, casualwear, and clothes for going out-out. But then in 2020, something unusual happened. Our need for office-appropriate attire went out of the window with the Coronavirus pandemic requiring businesses around the world to let their employees work from home. We might have worn a blouse with pyjama bottoms for the first few weeks of Zoom calls, but eventually we relaxed into our new normal. …

I realised a major life goal by finishing my 80,000-word manuscript in 2020

If you asked my ten-year-old self what she wanted to be when she was older, she would’ve answered without hesitation: “I want to be an author.” Reader, let me tell you, my younger self would be proud because as of the 3 October 2020, I finished my 80,000-word manuscript.

This is hopefully the first of many novels I’ll write in my life, but having finished my first project of that scale is an indescribable feeling. Of course, it’s not really finished — the manuscript is currently resting, and after a few weeks away from it I’ll revise it before I…
